In the U.S. they’re cowboys, in Argentina they’re gauchos, and in Chile, they’re HUASOS.
I spent a day with a well-respected elder in a rural part of Chile, documenting his world and the traditions of the sport. He didn’t speak English, and I don’t speak Spanish, but we found a rhythm working side by side, communicating through gestures and patience.
He showed me the routines, the gear, the horses, and the pride that comes with carrying on this way of life. It was a reminder of how the camera can cut through language and open doors to people and places that would otherwise be out of reach.
